for Wholesale Ingredient Trading
in the B2B Sector

Ingremart is the first specialized B2B marketplace for wholesale trading of raw materials and ingredients. The assortment includes hundreds of thousands of ingredients in more than 45 categories across various functional classes for industries of all sectors. For example, they supply potassium sorbate for confectionery factories, mineral additives for animal feed mixes, and natural flavorings for alcohol production.

Client’s Problem and Objectives

The client operates a large-scale business supplying ingredients both in large and small wholesale quantities. Their customers include food manufacturers, bakeries, confectioneries, livestock farms, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries. The logistics were well-established, with their own warehouses.

The client aimed to create a unified service platform for B2B ingredient trading, a first of its kind. This marketplace would:

Help manufacturers and suppliers of ingredients find each other.

Expand the audience for both sales and procurement by attracting new buyers and sellers.

Make it quicker and easier for buyers to place wholesale orders.

Reduce sellers’ costs through the automation of business processes like marketing, sales, logistics, document management, and communication, making them easier to manage.

Provide a new revenue stream: earning not only from their own supplies but also from commissions on other sellers’ sales.

They needed a marketplace that took into account the specifics of wholesale ingredient sales and developed convenient management tools. The challenge was to solve the problem of price and inventory calculation for wholesale sales of products in various packaging: small boxes, pallets, individual items, and composite orders with different packagings.

When they approached us, the client had a good understanding of their target audience and business specifics: who buys and sells, how they prefer to operate, and decision-making features. They had conducted preliminary analytics and had clear requirements.

What We Did

Solved Packaging Issues

Wholesale trading requires selling products in various packagings: from a few boxes to pallets. For example, the food colorant “Allura Red” can be packed in 50g, 1kg, and 25kg as per the buyer’s choice. CS-Cart’s default price setting per unit was unsuitable for the client. We needed to teach CS-Cart to calculate product prices (including wholesale), the number of packages, and stock levels based on product packaging.

 

 

We implemented a mechanism that added a new characteristic to products — type of packaging. Sellers can flexibly configure their products and sales methods: some products can be sold per unit, others in small or large wholesale quantities. Buyers can add products to the cart in any available packaging, choosing the type of packaging and the number of kilograms. Consequently, we had to refine the inventory tracking mechanism, allowing automatic tracking of both unit and weight-based product deductions.

The cart summary

Depending on whether packaging options are enabled for a product, wholesale discounts, bonus points, and cart recalculations apply.

For instance, in the cart summary, the quantity and cost of products are shown considering the packaging. If the product has no packaging options, it is shown in units.

Wholesale prices are displayed based on kilograms. If a buyer wants to purchase 5kg of a product, this price is applied in the cart.

If the product’s price type is “units,” wholesale discounts are indicated in units.

Unique B2B Design without Additional Costs

We based our design on the UniTheme2, whose look and functionality suit any business direction. By smartly personalizing the template, the marketplace’s appearance was differentiated from others developed on the same theme, without additional costs and in a short timeframe.

We customized the standard interface according to the B2B specifics and user scenarios of buyers and sellers. Through branded colors, styles, and graphics, we added visual architecture and individuality. Small visual changes gave the marketplace its unique look.

New sellers and buyers might encounter difficulties using the marketplace: issues with registration, receiving invoices, and placing orders. To prevent this, a training section with videos helps users quickly master the platform’s functionality and reduce the likelihood of errors.

We added convenient templates like “Single Video” and “Training Video Grid,” making it easy for administrators to manage the marketplace’s training section.

Enhanced Brand Management

Manufacturers in the food, pharmaceutical, and other industries often rely on the brand of a product when making decisions. To make it easier for them to place orders for specific brands and navigate the catalog overall, we significantly redesigned the CS-Cart’s brand functionality.

Each brand has its own landing page with descriptions and customizable banners. This is important for SEO when buyers search for products through branded queries in search engines, for example, “buy Ensign citric acid.” The page includes information about the brand, products, and brand lines. By clicking the “All products” button, buyers can view all products of that brand and add them to the cart.

Brand lines function as product characteristics. In the administrative section, when setting up options for this characteristic, it is possible to assign a brand to a line. This way, the brand and line are linked together. Consequently, on the brand pages in the “Directions” block, the brand line will be automatically displayed.

Expanded B2B Checkout

All checkout changes aim to improve the user experience for wholesale buyers, boosting sales and customer loyalty. We combined the order page and cart: buyers can add multiple products to the cart and check only the needed ones using checkboxes. This allows wholesalers to select and order needed products quickly and conveniently without switching between pages.

There is a separation between the consignee and the buyer if they do not match, forming separate payment and shipping documents. Depending on the chosen legal entity, the available delivery addresses list changes. Forming different document types for each avoids confusion and errors in order processing, crucial for wholesale transactions.

Products are grouped together if they share the same vendors, payment methods, addresses, delivery time, and date. These products are then considered as one group and a single delivery will be applied to them. This means the delivery is applied to the first product in the group, while the others will be marked as “Combined with.” This approach reduces the number of steps during checkout, allows products to be consolidated during shipping, and enables a single delivery.

Buyer’s Personal Account as a Procurement Management Tool

We expanded and fully customized the profile menu, adding numerous clickable sections with subcategories like cashback information, social media integration, trade services, documents, etc. The buyer’s personal account turned into a full-fledged platform for procurement specialists, combining all necessary tools for their work and automating routine tasks.

Two interesting sections not provided by default in CS-Cart are “Offers” and “Purchased Products.”

The “Offers” section serves the purpose of streamlining procurement processes for buyers by providing them with a convenient platform to specify their recurring ingredient needs and receive corresponding offers from suppliers. For instance, if a buyer regularly requires specific ingredients such as xanthan gum in quantities of 1000 kg, citric acid up to 10000 kg, and sodium glutamate up to 1000 kg, they can input this information into their profile settings upon registration.

This information is stored in the buyer’s profile, and all available offers from suppliers are compiled in the “Offers” section within their personal account. Consequently, buyers no longer need to browse through the catalog each month to find the required products and choose the best offer manually. Everything is automatically populated into their personal account, simplifying the process to select a supplier and place an order. The user-friendly interface allows for easy comparison of prices, packaging options, and available quantities without leaving the page. Buyers can add preferred offers to their cart with just one click.

Offers from suppliers

In the “Purchased Products” section, all completed orders are saved. For buyers with recurring purchases of the same ingredients, they can easily reorder through this section, saving time for procurement specialists.

Loyalty Program for Wholesale Sales

The marketplace operates a loyalty program in the form of cashback. In regular retail online stores, cashback depends either on the product or on the total order amount. In the case of wholesale sales, cashback is tied to the volume of purchase for a single item.

The more of a single item a buyer purchases, the greater cashback they receive. This encourages buyers to order larger quantities of items. The percentage of bonus points awarded depends on the order value and can be adjusted in the administrative panel, subject to the administrator’s discretion. Bonus points can have customizable expiry dates and notifications, so customers will automatically receive reminders that their bonus points will expire.

Brief information about the bonuses that will be accrued upon purchase is displayed on each product page. When hovering the mouse cursor, a window with information pops up.

Additional Revenue from Promoting Individual Sellers

There are several monetization methods for the marketplace: sales commission, monthly subscription, placement fee, and more. One unique method is paid promotion, such as highlighted ads, higher ratings, and top positions in listings. To enable this monetization model in the future, we added a customizable section in the catalog called “Favorite Stores,” editable by the marketplace administrator.

Attracting Sellers with a Trial Period

Sellers registering on the marketplace often distrust the platform, wanting to ensure it has buyers and is user-friendly. A free trial period is an excellent solution to this issue. During the trial period, sellers can familiarize themselves with all marketplace functions and features, evaluate its benefits, and make an informed decision about starting to work on the platform. This also allows sellers to attract new clients and expand their customer base without additional advertising costs.

If a tariff includes a free period, the “Become a Supplier” page automatically notifies the seller about it.

A CRON command checks the trial period’s status, notifying the seller about its end and prompting them to choose a paid plan.

A highly trafficked wholesale marketplace for B2B, featuring approximately 5,000 brands of manufacturers of ingredients for the food, pharmaceutical, perfume-cosmetic, and chemical industries of Russia and the CIS.

This new center, capable of processing over 2,000 orders per day, provides wholesale buyers from the Northwestern Federal District with the opportunity to receive their orders the next day. Expanding such a large-scale complex will contribute to the development of entrepreneurship in the region, including small and medium-sized businesses. Integration with the Billz program simplifies retail sales for vendors and automates the accounting of products, customers and finances in one place.

Vendor functionality

The marketplace provides vendor ratings and different tariff plans. But in order to make the website really attractive, vendors on the marketplace can create their own online store with a separate domain name.

Thus, in order for a bed linen retailer to open his online store, he just needs to create his account on the Mato marketplace and set up the accounts in ZoodMall and Billz. The marketplace takes care of transactions and all logistics.

To make it easy for vendors to open and set up their store, the marketplace has developed hint systems and added instructions for all custom functionality: from quick connection to public delivery methods to setting up an online checkout and signing an OFD certificate.

Detailed analytics

We helped to create custom reports in Google Analytics for a comprehensive assessment of the marketplace performance, user behavior analysis from entering the site to purchasing a product. Vendors can see the entire route of how their products ended up in the cart, evaluate the effectiveness of their store’s sales funnel, and receive recommendations for improving user experience.

Elit is a medical marketplace with a huge product variety. This is a unique platform for a focused audience with its own expertise. It combines not only special clothing and medical equipment sellers, but also educational institutions.

Main goals

Our client had a production of medical clothing, which he was selling in his online store developed on Bitrix platform. In addition, he had a parallel project – the sale of medical products. Thanks to the accumulated experience in the medical field, the idea was born to combine two projects and create one large marketplace for the sale of medical clothing, literature, equipment, and training courses.
We needed a platform for medical organizations, doctors, where they can not only purchase the necessary products in one place, but also get information, opinions, and exchange their experiences.

Platform selection and catalog transfer from 1C

The CS-Cart Ultimate for marketplaces was chosen as the CMS.

Its wide default functionality is enough not only to create a highly loaded project, but also allows to scale the marketplace and expand the geography in the future.

Data transfer from 1C to CS-Cart.

Our client has two working 1C databases: one contains the names of products with their technical names, the second database manages the stock remains and the product names familiar to the buyer.

Data is automatically downloaded from two databases, then data on the name, manufacturer, properties, prices, quantity are linked and uploaded to the marketplace. Then data from orders is being returned to 1C. Thanks to the CommerceML(1C) add-on, CS-Cart allows you to do both manual and automatic uploads and facilitates bookkeeping in 1C.

In order for a vendor to place products on the marketplace, they must be reflected in the warehouse.

In order to do this, a request with product data is sent to 1C, where this information is processed, Then the vendor receives a notification back that his application has been successfully processed and the products have been placed successfully.

Settings for vendors

The marketplace offers vendors free placement, entrance with any number of products, and provides assistance in their promotion. Thanks to the accumulated experience and built relationships, vendors definitely fall into our client’s target audience.

To become a vendor, it is enough to send an application and pass moderation by the marketplace administrator.

The marketplace has many rules and a certain offer for vendors, according to which they are being moderated. For this purpose we have developed the “Vendor Documents” add-on, which simplifies all the processes for administrators.

We have created a Knowledge Base for vendors,

which contains instructions, tips, for example: how to work with orders, manage products, add products, change prices. They can be created manually for different sections of the site.

Order status chain notification.

The marketplace has its own rules for processing orders, and if the vendor does not process orders for a long time, then the marketplace administrator receives a notification by mail.

Promotions.

The marketplace has their own list of discounts in which vendors may participate in. In order to do it the vendor needs to choose the size of the product discount from the proposed by the Administrator range.

Partner stores are presented interactively on the map.

It is possible to search by cities and by vendors.

Vendors can become authors on the marketplace blog for free and promote their products.

Registration

The user can register on the site in 2 steps thanks to our “Registration by phone number with OTP” add-on. Buyers do not waste time filling out long forms and go straight to shopping.

Product page

The product page with a preview is filled with high-quality photos that can be enlarged. The buyer has the opportunity to compare, add the products he likes to his wishlist.

Some products combine features, such as grouping by height and size. On some of them, you can choose height and size separately.

Communication channels

Visitors can get advice directly from the vendors or ask the marketplace employees. For a quick way to contact the customer service department and clarify questions, you can use the integrated JivoChat and Telegram bot.

Filters

Since the assortment is large, the marketplace offers wide flexible filter settings and sorting products in different categories.

The Podguznikoff online store is a reliable and proven supplier of everything necessary for maternity and children from birth. Due to the fact that the online store purchases goods directly from manufacturers, the prices in it are lower than those of competitors.

Client problems and tasks

Podguznikoff.ru is an online store operating in Moscow and the Moscow region. It has partners from other cities who sell similar products under the Podguznikoff brand. However, the product base, inventory balances and prices for each store are different. The client decided to combine the entire business on one site, but the platform on which he worked was not suitable for this.

Our work process

Moving to CS-Cart

We transferred the data of the client’s online store to the CS-Cart Ultimate multi-store platform, designating Moscow and the Moscow Region as the main storefront of the seller. Additional showcases were created for regional promotion. All existing processes and store data were preserved.

All storefronts are managed from one administrative panel, but regional administrators can be provided with the different access rights.

Design on a turnkey solution

The client chose the Youpi theme as the basis for the design. The choice of a standard solution allowed him to significantly save the budget. Even taking this into account, the Podguznikoff online store does not look like other stores using the Youpi theme since we have redesigned many elements.

We removed unnecessary items in the menu, redesigned the product list page and the product detail page. Each element brings the user closer to making a purchase.

On the right in the checkout there is a floating block with products. A convenient feature is that products are hidden while scrolling.

Transfer of the loyalty system without losing user data

The old version of the Podguznikoff store had a loyalty program for customers functioning for a long time. The store’s clients collected purchases for a certain amount and received a status that gave them bonuses on their next purchase.

We implemented the same system on CS-Cart Ultimate. At the same time, we transferred data about all customers from the old store and assigned them the same status that they had in the old version.

On the storefront side it looks like a block of bonus points under the price of the product. The buyer can see how many points he will receive upon purchase. If the user is authorized on the store, then his current status will be highlighted.

CommerceML is a standard add-on for exchanging online store data with accounting systems: 1C, MySklad, Class365. By default, changing the status of an order from 1C occurs directly in the database and is not displayed in CS-Cart. Because of this, the client had difficulties in acquiring bonus points. CS-Cart simply did not determine that the order was completed and points could be awarded. We set the exchange with 1C in such a way that the status “Completed” comes to CS-Cart through a standard function first, and only then it changes in the database. By doing this we eliminated all the failures in scoring points.

Unit price for products sold in packs

In order for the buyer to know exactly which packaging is more profitable, and not to calculate the price per unit in products that come in packs (for example, diaper packaging), we made an automatic unit price calculation for such products.

In order to do this, we have improved the product entity itself in the store: the system now calculates the price per unit for all the composite products. The product page displays both the price per package and the price per unit.

Convenient registration

We improved the account registration: the buyer registers by phone number, specifies e-mail. And when entering your personal account, it uses what is more convenient for him as a login.

When placing an order, you can choose either to register or to log in as a guest.

The buyer himself indicates whether he needs a call back

Many buyers do not like it when the store manager calls back and clarifies the details of the order. Especially for them, we added a checkbox: the buyer checks the box, the manager sends the order. It’s simple: no extra calls.

Automation of administrator’s actions

The online store accumulated a cache of stored pages, which clogged the server space and slowed down the system. We suggested to the customer that this problem should be solved by using our Automatic Administrator Tasks add-on.

This add-on is useful not only because it automatically cleans the page cache, but also automates other routine tasks in the online store:

  • data export/import;
  • clearing the cache;

Client’s Description

Stomdevice regularly participates in international and regional exhibitions, and cooperates with global brands in the dental industry. The online store blog features the latest dental news and equipment reviews so that customers can learn everything about the product they need before buying.

Our goal was to make a user-friendly interface for individuals and legal entities.

Our work process

Improved brand page

For dental clinics it is often important to buy a product of a certain brand or country of origin. For example, one of the buyers trusts equipment and components exclusively made in Germany, while the other equips his dental office only with brands from Israel.

For such cases, we have customized and improved the brands page. In addition to the standard alphabetical order, we assigned a new characteristic to all brands — the country of origin, and added a filter by country in a separate block. For clarity, the producing countries are indicated not by text but by their flags.

Now the customer can simply click on the country flag and the page will sort the brands by their country of origin.

For example, by clicking on the flag of Austria, you will get a selection of Austrian dental equipment brands.

Number of available products is indicated near each brand and each name is clickable. From here you can go to the page of any brand and continue to make purchases as usual.

Creation and sending of a commercial offer online

Since the scope of Stomdevice is B2B segment, buyers do not always simply add the necessary products to the cart and place orders on their own. Very often the transactions are made outside of the online store with the personal participation of sales managers. They personally call up representatives of dental clinics, select the most suitable products for them and then sign supply contracts.

We’ve developed an ability to generate commercial offers online during a conversation or after it is completed, so the ready commercial offer is sent to the buyer’s email with a minimum of managers’ efforts.

 

Whichever option the manager chooses, as a result, a form for filling out a commercial offer will be opened. Some information will already be filled in automatically, and the rest will have to be entered manually. At last, the manager clicks the “Submit” button and the commercial offer is sent to the buyer’s email.

Integration with delivery services

In order to carry out deliveries not only throughout Russia, but also to the CIS countries, different delivery methods are supported: Business Lines, Boxberry, Russian Post, CDEK, Crastin, delivery by courier. In order to determine the delivery point with an accuracy of the area, we integrated the MainMap and DaData services.

The client chooses the most convenient service in terms of cost and delivery time right on the checkout page.

Product reviews

We have added the Extended Reviews add-on in order to make information about the product as useful as possible for buyers.

Reviews not only help to get additional unique content, but they also help customers quickly make a purchase decision.

Promotions and discounts

The site has more than 9,000 products and various regular promotions and discounts. A separate section “Sale” has been added to the main menu in addition to the filters in product categories in order to draw the attention of buyers to the special offers.

The search for promotional products has become simple and fast and can be done in two clicks.
