Client problem

We’ve had a long-standing partnership with K9 Shop, providing regular assistance with enhancements and upgrades. This time, the store sought our help not only with platform upgrades but also with redesigning. Furthermore, they encountered challenges with maintaining accounting records and managing other sales channels, such as marketplaces.

What have we done

1. Upgrade CS-Cart

We regularly upgrade the store, beginning with version 4.1.3, and we have now upgraded it to version 4.16.1 (at the time of composing this article).

2. The website and checkout page have undergone a redesign

The UX design on critical pages like checkout is of utmost significance as this is where conversions take place. Competent UX ensures that users seamlessly navigate from one step to another, ultimately achieving their desired goal. It’s vital for the checkout process to be simple and user-friendly.

3. Enhanced integration with Vendiro

Vendiro seamlessly integrates e-commerce platforms with over 70 popular marketplaces in Europe, including Bol.com, Amazon, and Real.de. This solution streamlines pricing, orders, and returns automation. However, the specific catalog upload from Vendiro is incompatible with CS-Cart, leading our client to manage two separate catalogs simultaneously.

Solution:

We made an automatic editor that uploads a file with products once a day, converts it and transfers it to CS-Cart. Also in the opposite direction: the file with orders placed in the store is converted and transferred to Vendiro. This simplifies sales statistics and eliminates duplicates. Now data transfer is carried out completely without the participation of the administrator.

4. Implement accounting automation

The client’s accounting was carried out manually, without the use of automation tools. And there were many difficulties with providing data to the tax office. It was difficult to confirm accounting adjustments for returns.

Solution:

We automatically processed orders once a day, generated paid invoices in PDF format and stored them on the server. When the administrator needs to provide data, he will simply download the required period and provide the data.
To prevent issues with incomplete tax returns, the store generates the required adjustment file each month, considering factors such as delivery, discount purchases, returned items, and paid.

Steelracing is an online store of various motorcycle equipment from scooters to snowmobiles with a delivery service throughout Russia. Working directly with motorcycle manufacturers allows the store to set low prices and guarantee fast order fulfillment.

Client problem

The client’s store was built on WordPress with an e-commerce module. This CMS is well suited for online stores with a small product range of up to 100 units. But our client has more than 2000 of them.

  • To implement all the capabilities of a full-fledged online store with delivery, you need to install additional modules and extensions.
  • New blocks and website elements cannot be adapted to the business design.
  • Due to the lack of technical support, all improvements and changes are made independently or through third-party programmers.

As a result, the online store did not look attractive, and management became difficult.

Main goals

  1. Transfer the client’s store to CS-Cart while maintaining the site structure and all content on the pages.
  2. Develop an up-to-date design and integrate it on the website.

What have we done

1. Created a migration plan map and transferred data

For the client, it was important that all content be preserved on each page. For migration, we chose a license for online stores and UniTheme to develop further design. CS-Cart is ideal for an online store, it allows the client to independently add blocks and effectively manage the site. The variety of delivery methods covers the client’s main USP – fast delivery to any region.
We described the site structure and made a plan to transfer all the data.

Since 2002, Led Outfitters has been a supplier of high quality emergency lighting for Police, Ambulance, Fire Brigade, Construction, Tow Trucks and Personal Vehicles.

Their products meet the high standards and requirements of state and municipal organizations. The main task of Led Outfitters is to meet high standards of safety in extreme conditions.

Client’s problem

The client’s website has been running on the CS-Cart platform since 2005. During all this time, there have been no significant design updates. Over such a long period of time online buyers have become accustomed to modern models of interaction in the online environment.
The client contacted us in order to analyze marketing tools and implement them on the website, update the store and create a new design that is relevant to the new requirements.

How we did it

Research of the target audience and competitors

The target audience of the customer is municipal organizations: police, ambulance, fire service, as well as cargo carriers, snow removal and road repair companies. Since the work of these services takes place in difficult and extreme conditions, safety and high quality is an important criteria when choosing an equipment supplier.

After analyzing the websites of competitors, we found out areas for growth and highlighted the main advantages of the client.
The site should convey to the audience guarantees of equipment reliability, fast service and reflect the trust in customers.

Prototyping and development of a new design

We prototyped the main pages in order to fix usability bugs and create a new way to interact with users

The ready-to-go website theme did not fit the requirements of our client, so we created a custom design from scratch. The new layout focuses on large typography and illustrations with an emphasis on the already classic needs of the client – the clarity and intuitiveness of design. We picked up and divided colors and fonts into basic and complementary ones.

 

We redesigned the logo

The main idea of ​​the logo has remained unchanged: the recognizable image of a flashing beacon is made of simple shapes plus the company name. But the fonts, colors and styles have been updated to match the new UI-kit. As a result, it has remained recognizable for old customers, but at the same time it meets new trends.

The main advantages of the client were highlighted with bright banners and added to the main page to make a simple return policy, free shipping, equipment quality assurance and competitive price available at a glance.

Catalog

Product categories, in addition to the standard “burger” menu, were made clear and simple on the main page. We eliminated product duplication in the catalog and added a color scheme for simple and intuitive navigation.

For the convenience of users, we added: product sorting, the ability to quickly purchase from the catalog and setting the products view (list, tiles).

Product page

We made the product page as informative as possible for the client:

  • selection of available product specifications;
  • viewing ratings and reviews, as well as the ability to ask a question, increases trust and broadcasts an open relationship with customers;
  • in addition to the text description, we added video reviews on YouTube – the expansion of visual content increases the likelihood of a purchase;
  • the ability to see how many views and purchases there were, as well as adding to favorites are simple tools that encourage purchases.

In addition, the company’s work policy is broadcast on each card: free shipping on most products, a simple return policy regardless of the reason, quality assurance.

Registration and checkout

Purchase and registration processes were not only separated for individuals and legal entities, but also simplified and made more understandable. As a result, the registration process became faster, and the client’s path to conversion was shorter.

Purchasing through a guest account simplifies the process and increases the likelihood of conversion, as the client does not need to create and verify an account.

Additional features

  • Added a subscription to updates. For the buyer, this is an opportunity to be aware of new products and discounts, as well as to monitor price changes. For the customer, collecting subscribers is an opportunity to create a full-fledged email marketing, increase sales and shorten the purchase cycle.
  • Thanks to the Advanced Email Marketing modular solution, the customer can collect and analyze information, remind about abandoned carts, manage the customer lifecycle and maximize the return on subscriptions.
  • Reviews and comments about purchased products provide the most useful and detailed information, generate additional content and increase customer confidence.
  • In addition, after updating the platform and optimizing video content, the speed of the online store has increased.

Lake Lite products are developed and engineered at our Indiana headquarters, where they are extensively tested and improved. Lake Lite’s goal and mission is to produce unique and quality piers and boat lift lighting products that exceed customer expectations.

Client’s problem

We have been cooperating with Lake Lite Inc. for many years and were regularly updating the functionality of the store. However, the design was based on the Responsive Theme back in 2014 and hasn’t been updated since. It is important that Lake Lite sells high-end products that are used in yacht clubs, when equipping private piers, and buyers are people with high incomes. Obviously, in 2021, the design developed in 2014 no longer meets modern requirements and does not correspond to the status of the client and the quality of his products. There was a risk that such an outdated design could simply scare off new wealthy buyers.

We offered the client to develop a new design and update the appearance of the online store, based on the latest marketing research and UI/UX principles.

Our work plan
Target audience analysis

To make a high-quality UI/UX design, you need to analyze the target audience and the competitive environment well. This will show exactly how users behave, how to change the appearance of the store and what design elements to use.

The target audience (TA) of the client is people leading a measured lifestyle: wealthy Americans over 40 years old. They spend time with family, live in private houses, have their own piers or use private bays. They search for information on the Internet and often make a purchase decision by watching YouTube videos.

We combined data on the target audience in the form of Customer Journey Map and User Flow, which shows how customers interact with Lake Lite products and what influences the purchase decision. Problematic areas of interaction with customers and steps that need to be taken into account when redesigning to improve customer experience were immediately outlined.

Competitor analysis

Lake Lite has 7 biggest competitors whose websites we analyzed in the following areas: user experience, content, technical side, marketing side. For clarity, we evaluated the results on a 10-point scale and reflected them in the summary table.

Research results

After analyzing the target audience and competitors, we came to some conclusions.

First of all, the design should be adapted to mobile devices and take into account all modern trends in mobile application development, namely:

  • Bottom menu bar
  • High header for easy scrolling content
  • Icons must be accompanied by a caption
  • Large high-quality photos and videos

Taking into account the characteristics of the target audience and the theme of the site, we chose Material Design as the main design style. This is Google’s design language, which is a great guide to visual, dynamic, and interactive design across platforms and devices.
